JB Doubles Summer League II 7/20/10 - 9/14/10

I started a new feature at JB league this past week. One FREE CTP hole will be designated as a "Pin Pick" each week. Basically, this means that the winner of that CTP wins a disc and gets to designate the position of one hole for the following week. As long as the sleeve is in usable shape, every position on the course is an option. I picked FREE CTP Hole 15A for the "Pin Pick" on Week 2. Rich Nunn was the winner.

League Notes 8/3/2010 - Week 3

 The Week 9 activity this league will be a 18 hole tournament with divisional payouts! More details to follow in the coming weeks…

 Once again, the cost of the league is $25/man or $50/team. The extra $5 worked out perfectly last league session. Everyone was able to walk away with a little something and I didn’t have to squeeze the payouts too much. We are going to stick with this entry fee from here on out.

 Everyone has 4 weeks to pay their league fees. This is plenty of time to figure out your finances. After the fourth week, you will incur a $5/week (max $10 total) penalty. Any money accumulated from this penalty will go directly towards the ACE POOL, not the payouts.

 As usual, there will also be 50/50 holes, FREE CTP holes, and an ACE POOL. The price of these will ALWAYS remain the same. It is $2/hole for the 50/50’s and $1/round for the ACE POOL. If you want to participate in all of the extra contests, the total is $5/man. The FREE CTP holes are obviously FREE for everyone.

 I have a pair of Oakley sunglasses up for raffle. Thank you Brad Stone for the generous donation! They are ballistics grade, military issue. If you would like to take a closer look, just ask me, I have them in my league box. Tickets are $2/each or 6 for $10. I will do the drawing before we start Week 8. All profits go directly back into course improvements.

 Due to the success of the format, NO SUBS will be allowed. If your partner can’t make it, you must play CALI. If both of you can’t make it, you will be taking a drop week. Each team gets 1 drop week per 8-week league session. Also, when playing CALI, only your first shot off of the tee counts towards the ACE POOL. Your second shot is only good for the CTPs and 50/50’s.

 I will be making the divisional splits after Week 5 this session (instead of Week 4). Let’s see if the extra week makes a difference.

 Following JB Doubles Summer II League, Mark Dudenhoeffer and I will be running The Battle at the Barracks League. We tried this out last year, and everyone had a ton of fun! This is a weekly payout Ace Race format. We shorten every hole up so that nothing is longer than 200 feet. Your stroke score is inconsequential. Only birdies and metal count. 1 point for a birdie, 5 points for metal, and 25 points for an ACE. The higher your points total the better. In addition to the weekly payouts, there will be an overall prize as well. Check it out!

Here are the results for Week 3...

The competition is starting to shape up nicely. I'm pretty sure that some groups are really looking forward to applying the drop week already. You will have to wait until Week 5 is in the books. Bryan Johnson won FREE CTP Hole 15C and got to choose a pin position. He decided to pick the longest hole on the course, Hole 17D. Interesting!

Bid Bad Bob's Crazy eBay Sale

Bob gave me 3 discs to sell on eBay for the winner's payouts of Summer League II. Here is what happened:

Innova Champion KC 11-Time Tye Dye Eagle - Sold for $10.50 + $5 shipping
Innova Champion JK 4-Time Valkyrie - Sold for $12.48 + $5 shipping

After all of my shipping costs, PayPal fees, and eBay fees, there is just a tad more than $40 left over. I am giving myself the hassle bonus and calling it $40 even. Therefore, the top team for this session is receiving a payout bonus of $40 on top of the calculated payout. Not bad, but I am not sure it was worth the hassle. Kind of fun, I guess.

One more week and then we do the drops and divisional splits. I haven't even looked at the possibilities yet, so you have to do your own math if you want to sandbag it...

JB Doubles Summer II League '10 Week 5

Here are the results for Week 5. Everyone's drop week has been factored in. The divisional splits are in the process of being figured out. Dan Doke and I will do our normal consulting session and try to come up with the fairest scenario. There might be 5 divisions, 4 divisions, or 3 divisions. There also might be any amount of teams in those divisions, so try not to make any predictions...you are only asking to be disappointed when it happens for real. There is never any bias/favoritism granted to anyone in this decision making process, so please don't be upset if you feel like you got the shaft. I will hopefully have the splits posted by tomorrow.

Congratulations to Tom Murdick! He aced Hole 6B and took home $157 in cold, hard cash! Nice shooting! The ACE POOL is now reset. If things go like they have been, we can still get the ACE POOL back up to $150+ before the end of league. Anything leftover in the ACE POOL at the end of league will be given out in some form of a throw-off.

The competition is getting pretty tight. Some teams might not have any nails left by the time this league is over! Just wait until the splits come out...

Also, Aaron Walther won the Pin-Pick for next week (CTP Hole 12A). So, Aaron, what is your pleasure?
