Good news. Just met with one of the board members and disc golf is the only new item on the agenda, so it's on for this meeting and we could have an answer by Tuesday! I'll let you know.

We should start on a physical list of names of people that are for this to show the board.

We could ask people at upcoming tournaments to sign a piece of paper with name and phone number/zip code. I think the board would be surprised if they knew the amount of people that are "for" this.

Usually the people you are talking to don't have any idea what disc golf is. Just keep that in mind.

When I met with the Parks board here in Arnold I brought a basket and let them try it out. They putted around a little bit and were enjoying themselves. Showing them the game firsthand worked out great for me.

Thanks for the tips. Zip code list and full color presentation of proposed tee and basket positions, and I included a link to this forum. Hopefully the give us a thumbs up for next Sundays temp course and all the board members are encouraged to come play and see it in the park first hand. The weather looks favorable for now and that will bring a large crowd out for the event, that will also show them the interest this sport has. My contact told me that some of the members already know about disc golf. They are also looking at putting a few baskets in the park across from the Keil in the Gateway Mall.

Key points made in presentation:

A low cost activity for all skill levels to bring more people to the park
Trash pick up
Baskets and golf discs made in St. Louis (They love this kind of stuff, keeping business local. City planning can be and sometimes is out of town interests attempting to make a profit.)
City residents that currently travel to the county to play
No additional maintnence
A city resident (me) is bringing this to them
Volunteer organized ongoing events and teaching to city residents through the brand new YMCA
Design requires no cutting of trees and coexists with current park activities

Carondelet is a dead issue. Here is the email
"Well that sucked. I haven't been that summarily dismissed in a long time. Park department and alderman were against it before I started. the few committee members on my side were turned by them. Two main reasons cited: 1) course is too large, will interfere with other activities - basically people will be getting hit in the head with Frisbees, 2) its not in the master plan and outside this committee's powers and scope. I argued against both points to no avail. I mean not a person in the room was budging.

Oh well can't get courses installed without asking.

why not contribute to these guys re election fund on be half of the st louis disc golf club. I think we could get a fav. reaction if the alderman have a couple of extra Gs for reelection campagain. the alderman controll what goes in to the parks. the parks dept just clean up the parks.
