WEEK 8 OF LEAGUE

This is going to be a long post…

We somehow got league night in. I do apologize somewhat because most likely on a night like that I would have canceled. Unfortunately with it being the final it makes it a little tougher. Hopefully everyone can see and understand all of the preparation that it takes to pull it off and realize how hard it would be to carry it over another week. There were a lot of troopers out there and I didn’t hear a single complaint about playing in the rain. Thank you everyone!

As always I need to thank our sponsors. The St. Louis Disc Golf Club supplied all of the discs for payout. Dave McCormack at Gateway Disc Sports supplied all of the discs that were given out as CTP’s. Brian Moskop at QT continues to give us vouchers for free sandwiches. Discgolfersr.us supplied all of the stickers given out as CTP’s. O’fallon Brewery was unable to supply a keg, but we have been confirmed to receive one for the fall league…thanks Doug. And last but certainly not least, Dan Nixon with Rookies Bar and Grill. They hooked us up with 300 wings for free! Dan also took the time to bag up all the ice we needed as well as bringing a keg of beer up for us. You are the man!

Also wanted to thank Greg Kuehn again for getting things started every week until I am able to get there. Chris Horvath did a large share of the cooking for everyone and took care of all the scoring at the end. Jim Nelms and Doug McCormick were there helping out in any way possible to ensure the evening was more enjoyable for everyone. Shane Chesher and Tim Wiegard took care of all the club merchandise for payouts without me having to ask. They also took the time to come by my house before and after to help get everything needed to the course. There were a few things that did not have price tags and I wasn’t sure what the cost was. I gave Tim complete control over what to charge. Hopefully a few people got some good deals courtesy of Timmy Shanks!

This was the largest league yet and the rain always makes things more difficult. With all of the help I received though it seemed to be one of the easiest and smoothest final nights yet. This league wouldn’t be what it is without all of the extra helping hands and sponsors. THANK YOU!!!

There was $70 paid into the ace pool to bring the total to $278. No aces were hit. It has been suggested to me and I pretty much agree that it shouldn’t all carry over to the fall league. A lot of it will and I may end up deciding to let all of it carry, but there is a good chance I will use some of it for something different. Not real sure yet though. Any suggestions?

There were two CTP’s for each flight. I didn’t keep all of the flags since they were a big wet mess! I’m just surprised that we were actually able to figure out all the winners.

Due to the conditions we were unable to have the long drive contest. I gave the voucher to the youngest player in league which was either Ian or Carter…not sure which one was actually the youngest. Don the Legend takes the putting contest.

I don’t think a card was ever turned in for Chuck and Dan. It doesn’t matter much though because all of the payouts were figured out before you guys finished your round. Sorry, but you started too late and I tried to hold off as long as possible. I just couldn’t make everyone wait any longer to do all the payouts. Hopefully you can understand. I will take a look for your card when I get some time, so I can at least get your official scores in. If either of you happen to read this just let me know what you scored and I'll get everything updated.

The top 5 in A flight were paid out, top 7 in B, top 11 in C and everyone in D and E gets to walk away with something. Any ties were decided by a putt off. If a team was already gone by the time we did a playoff they lost by default. Jerry/Morgan and Eric/Steve both were not there to break the ties. I'm just going to split the money down the middle. I'll leave it up to you guys if you want to do something different.

I did not hear any complaints, but a lot of people ask why I do pay out so deep. Of course those are the people taking the top spots! Just kidding. Here is my reasoning for those who care. The first 7 weeks are a build up to the final night where we try and make it enjoyable for everyone in league. If I were to pay out only the top 1/3 or whatever it may be then almost 2/3 of the teams have nothing on the line the final night. The final night is also the only night where you are paired up by score and it is a much more competitive atmosphere. I want as many teams as possible to have something on the line. I believe out of 54 teams only 13 did not win anything. There were about the same amount of teams that had nothing on the line.

This league is not geared towards the pro players looking to win a bunch of money. It's about having a competitive yet fun time. I will always pay out everyone in the lower flights. I will also pay out at least 50% to all other flights. I usually do go deeper then 50% which sometimes I think may be too deep. If anyone has any comments or suggestions about it I would like to hear them.

I did mention it last night, but did want to mention it again in case you didn't hear. The club was out of stock of a lot of discs for the payout last night. New orders have been placed with all of the vendors. Jeff has told me that he will be bringing out all of the club merchandise for the second week of the fall league (August 11th). Please be sure to bring your vouchers out then or just a little extra cash if you need to buy some discs. There should be good selection to choose from and you can't beat the prices.

Dennis DeJong with the parks dept did come out last night before most people even arrived. I did have a chance to talk to him for a while and it went better then I could have ever expected. He was a very nice man and his support will go a long ways in what we can get accomplished. The parks dept absolutely loves what we are doing out there. The crew chief at Quail Ridge is also 100% behind what we have done in the past and what we hope to do in the future.

We will be able to close the course every night for the fall league. We are also going to be able to close the course for the Quail Clobber this Sunday. The parks dept is going to put it in their budget for 2010 to get a course installed at Indian Camp Creek. No guarantees that anything will even happen, but all signs right now are very promising. I'll keep everyone posted as I learn more.

I don't know how you got Indian Creek approved, you must be majic, Andy.
I will be playing the Clobber this Sunday (as well as assisting you wherever needed) and would like to pre-registar. Any chance on a hook up? Being as mail won't go out until Thursday, I don't trust it to get to you in time.

Bruce, you are all good. I have posted on the tournament thread that you are considered registered and paid. Thanks again for volunteering to help out where needed. As far as Indian Camp Creek, I really have to put all of the thanks in Bekin Younblood's hands. He has only been with the parks dept for a few years, but has done more then I could possibly ask to get things moving forward. Again though, there is nothing set in stone about ICC, but I'm very hopeful right now and keeping my fingers crossed.

I just noticed that Brandon and I were marked down for 126 on the final night. We actually shot a 54. Not sure how this happened, since we were there getting soaked like everyone else. No worries though, it would not have made a difference in us getting a prize or anything. Just didn't want a 126 on our scores. Cya 2nite!

Sorry about that Jake. On the offical scores posted at the course they are correct. I actually had you down for a 52 and not 54. You are right though that it doesn't really matter. Take a look at the team you tied with, BRENDAN and JAKE...how about that for a coincidence! When Chris was inputing the scores he had put a 126 for you guys and a 52 for the other team. I did notice it when finishing up everything in the spreadsheet. For whatever reason I didn't make the change on the message board.

Even crazier is that my partners name is Brandon Schottmueller and on their team is Brandon Scott Mueller. FREAKY!!!! I spelled his name wrong when I signed us up, but that is his real last name.
