WEEK 4 OF LEAGUE

There was $60 paid into the ace pool to bring the total to $212. Jeff Junte hit an ace on hole # 10. Nice ace! I think something like 4 out of the last 5 aces have been on hole 10. Kind of odd. Ace pool pays out 70%, so $148 goes to Jeff and $64 carries over to next week.

There were two CTP’s for each flight. Below are the winners.
8 – A – Morgan Hart
9 – B – Alex Romero
10 – C – Josh Lovelace
11 – D – Chas Kranz
12 – E – Bailey Polkinghorne
13 – A – Don The Legend
14 – B – Andy Majesky
15 – C – James Fox
16 – D – Gary Polkinghorne
17 – E – Debbie Polkinghorne

Below are the scores. The score on the left in bold is your total with ONE drop week. There will be a total of TWO. The weekly scores are to the right. Scores with an * are played cali. Your score is a 126 if neither partner shows up.

Hey Eric, cards go out starting at 4:00 and continue until 6:00. Not everyone can be there by 4:00 and others don't want to wait until 6:00. If you are one of those teams that starts at 4:00 you certainly don't want to HAVE to wait to be paired up with someone that can't make it until 6:00. If it makes you feel any better you will be paired up for the final night.

that would be why you set a league time. birch is 6pm sharp. and everyone shows and start on the assigned whole. is that the only league that does that?

I really have no idea how White Birch does their league. I didn't think it was the same starting time for everyone. I could be wrong though. I could do the same thing for Quail Ridge, but I would probably lose 3/4 of the teams. No thanks. I think I will keep doing what has worked very well so far.

White Birch does have a set starting time. The reason is/was A) you end up playing a lot of glow there most weeks, so it would be unfair to have guys who played 10 holes in the dark compare scores with guys who played all 36 in the sunlight and B) making sure the team pairings on the card rotate. The perception was that if you let teams show up at various times and card up, the same teams would play each other week after week and it would make it really easy for four friends to play on the same card and cheat. Why anyone would cheat to win a trophy at White Birch is beyond me, but that was the fear. Hazelwood also doesn't have to worry about fitting in the league and casuals because they can close their course, which is another thing that helps with the 6:00pm sharp starting time. I'm not sure if the QR league can really tell casuals they have to leave or not.

As you said, the flip side of this is that it keeps the league numbers down to a certain extent. Really, if any course called out for allowing teams to tee over a longer period it is White Birch, since once you get to around 24 teams on that little course it's backup city. However, White Birch has a following and a certain tradition that has built up, so it's hard to make changes to what they do.

Every place has to do what works. The 4-6 tee time at QR seems to be working, so there is really no need to change it.

The rules are what they are. If you don't like it, you don't have to play. Simple as that.

I am always open for comments and suggestions, but going to a set tee time is something I wouldn't even consider. To me it sounds like more of a pain for everyone involved. If I were to do something like that there wouldn't be close to the number of teams there are now. Let's say there was a set starting time and there were this many teams. Since the parking lot fills you might be one of those that has to park elsewhere and walk over. Then there is a chance that you would have to start on hole 16 since all of the holes would be filled. And then after finishing on 15 you would have one heck of a walk back to wherever you parked.

Not to mention that many CTP's probably wouldn't be picked up after the round. I always set the CTP's so I am the last one going through. If everyone started on a set hole then I would have to rely on other players to pick up CTP's. I know some would, but others wouldn't. If I had a CTP on hole 15 I'm not about to walk over there after my round and pick it up if someone forgot it. There is a chance it could get picked up the next day, but I'm not going to deal with that.

There is always the chance that someone could cheat when the same teams play together every time. My opinion is that those same teams would try to find a way to cheat no matter what. Whether it is trophies or cash on the line if you choose to cheat that is something you have to live with.

I won't be as harsh as Jorge, but if you don't like the way things are done at QR then there are other leagues out there to choose from.
