Springfield, Il visitor on 3/09/14 through 3/15/14

Postby Vonburg130 on Sun Mar 02, 2014 7:23 pm

Hey everyone. I'll be coming down on the 9th and looking to play all day, weather permitting! I don't have any courses in mind as long as they are good courses. Not sure if there are leagues or not yet but if so let me know. I can play all day the 9th, sometime after 1pm on the 10th. And after 4 pm on the 13th and 14th. Help a fellow disc golfer out and let me know if you can meet

Knowing the general area where you'll be staying/starting will really help with the advice. We've got a lot of courses.

I'll be in the florissant area but I am not opposed to traveling within a 30 mile radius of STL or farther for a nice course. I'd really like to play in leagues so I won't have to throw alone. The only course I've played that I did not like was Sioux (bring on the hate lol) but I did not have a guide either.

Also the Carrollton Park Handicap Singles League - Starts 3/10/2014

NOTICE

Daylight Savings Time happens on Sunday, March 9th. This means that the Carrollton Park DGC Handicap Singles League will be starting up again on March 10th. Sign-Ins and Flex-Starts will start 4.5 hours before sunset (3/10 = 2:34PM) and continue until 3 hours before sunset (3/10 = 4:04PM). As the days get longer, the start of sign-ins will continue to get pushed back until we reach 4:00PM. Once the start of sign in time reaches 4:00PM, it will remain there every week until the days get too short again. The last card will ALWAYS go out 3 hours before sunset, regardless of the time of year. Realize that the later you start your round, the more likely you are going to need to bring some LEDs to finish the round...

The league will remain the same as in the past, so all of the information on the flyer is still correct.

If you have not yet played a Carrollton Park DGC Handicap League round, come on out and see what its all about!

Sioux Passage is in Florissant, you should definitely hit that, great course and one of those which isn't muddy at this time of year.

Also in Florissant is Dunegant Park. It's, in my opinion, an alright course - still newish, not terribly technical, but still enjoyable, unique and close by.

Also very close by is Carrollton Park in Bridgeton. This is also a newish course, but it's a very unique and really tough course. Built on the remnants of an suburban neighborhood that was razed after the airport expansion, it sure provides a style of terrain I've never seen elsewhere. Also a good place for those who like really long courses.

The next closest to you is at Logan College (of chiropractic) in Chesterfield. This is a very new course, still not even completely finished... but man, this is one really tough, really unforgiving course with wildly varying terrain and true hazards. Bring your floaters and a retriever (or just play carefully) and bring some hiking boots. Also, bring a map for sure, this courses navigation is pretty weird. Don't let it sound like I'm detracting, this is a good course that will just get better.

I could go on... but one final suggestion: While you're in the area, why not check out Crystal City Underground (aka The Cave). It's the worlds first and only subterranean disc golf course. You will absolutely thank yourself for it and are certain to never have another dg experience like it. Just going on to the property at CCU is a cool experience.

Have fun!

Disc up,
If your in Florissant and you want to play a piece of history try White Birch DGC in Hazelwood, MO. This course is from a different era in disc golf, it dates back to pre-beveled edge disc. This is Missouri's 1st disc golf course and it was designed by the inventor of disc golf #0001, the late great Ed Headrick.
It just so happens that the Traveling LAKER league will be shooting a round immediately after the reading of the safety rules, which happens at (party time) 9:05 am on Sunday morning. We play herd style singles, if you pay $3 you are entered into the ace pool, skins, and overall winner.
Wherever you play, have fun friend.

8-)
Fly long & prosper!

You could probably get a round in before and a round in after.

Daylight savings is this weekend and it will be light out until at least 7pm.

I will try to make it out around 10 am to get a few holes in before the nooner.

I am sure someone will play after. I may even put my 13 tag up for grabs!
