DISC GOLF at LINDENWOOD...News

Disc up,
News about Lindenwood, both emailed and return emailed on 12/2/2010:

Good morning,

As a proud alum of Lindenwood, I am very pleased to see the profound development of campus facilities.

On a recent vacation back to St. Charles from my home in New Mexico, I returned to campus to play the new disc golf course on the back end of campus. As an avid disc golfer for over a decade, I firmly believe this feature is beneficial to the student population and to the St. Charles community in general. However, I would like to make a few observations and suggestions regarding the course:

It seems that the University does not take a vested interest in maintaining the course:

1) The lack of trash cans is a major problem. While playing a casual round with locals, I was informed that requests for trash cans on the course have been ignored consistently. A group of players called the 'Traveling Laker League' from Lake St. Louis picked up nearly 10 bags of trash from the course during our round. Their efforts are to be applauded, but the University needs to provide trash cans to alleviate the issue of trash on the course.

2) Signage is inadequate. Getting around the course is a pain. Would it hurt the University to provide a bit of money to improve signage on the course?

3) The teepads are also inadequate. Poor teepads can be a physical liability. Rain washes out the mud and creates a hazard for players. Simple rubber pads could be provided by the University and would create a safer and improved playing area.

Other suggestions include creating a disc golf club on campus to install improvements, assigning work study students to pick up trash, and using the disc golf course as a revenue generator by hosting tournaments and other events.

I am writing as an alumni who feels that his voice can and should be heard in this matter. I will gladly provide contact information for locals who care for the course and who can install the improvements to the course should the University choose to take a vested interest in the success of the disc golf course.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to your reply.

Ryan,

This Fall was the first full semester for the new disc golf course. We have more plans for course improvement but wanted to open the course as soon as possible. Trash cans and tee–pads are next on our list. We will also be working on signage and improving the fairways. We are constantly working to improve recreational activities on campus and I assure you that the disc golf course is a priority. In fact, we are talking with athletics about starting a competitive team.
Thank you and have a great day,
Kerry Cox

Is the church nearby a good place for non-Lindenwood students to park?

I noticed a lot of construction on the front nine also.

Disc up,
Having talked with the church grounds keepers, they just asked that you call them and make sure that they are not having a event that would fill their lot thereby needing all of the spots. The bad news :( is that I don't have their phone #, but the good news :) is that it is on there marquee sign.
