2011 JB Doubles Spring League - Starts 3/15

Just a couple of updates.

The 50/50 flag from Hole 2A last week was turned in. And the lucky winner is...Ben Frericks! Congratulations! $59 will be waiting for you tomorrow.

While we are on the subject of 50/50s, I have made a small adjustment/modification. Instead of there just being 2 x 50/50s, I decided that I would double up the opportunities for everyone and put 4 x 50/50s out on the course. It won't cost any more than before. There is a good reason for this. The 50/50s were coming in at around $60/each or more each week. As sweet as it is to win $60 for a nice drive, I figured $30 isn't too bad either. I want to spread the wealth around a bit more. We will see how it goes this week and go from there.

Here are the standings after Week 4...

There were a lot of double digits thrown this week, but nothing over the top like last weeks -16. The hot score (-12) was shot by Aaron Walther & Scott Houska. Congrats!

I think the idea to double up the 50/50 holes was well received, so I will continue to put 4 holes out there. Also, there was a 50/50 situation that might need a little explanation. There was a TIE on Hole 2 between Scott Houska and Tony Devoto. How can there be a TIE on a 50/50, you might ask? 2 non-partisan player's stepped off Tony's shot. 1 player came up with Tony winning by a 1/2", and the other came up with Tony falling short by 1/2". After a double-check, they still couldn't come up with a decisive winner. In this situation, my league policy dictates that this results in a TIE and both player's receive half of the 50/50 winnings. This policy hopefully will keep anyone from beneficially fudging their measurement...if you know what I mean.

Next week is the last week before the drop week is figured in and the divisional splits are made. No sandbagging please!

Here are the results after Week 5...

Congratulations to Mark Dudenhoeffer and Roger Reyes! They both ACED Hole 4A. They each get $65 and the ACE POOL is now reset. Once again, have no worries as the ACE POOL builds up rather quickly when $60 or so is collected every week. I had plans to leave Hole 4 in the "A" position for the rest of the Spring League, but I think it has seen enough action (3 ACES in 5 weeks) and will be moved to another position for awhile. Mark and I even talked about putting in a new position this Friday...hmmm...

The results posted below do not reflect the divisional splits. I will do my normal routine (remove names and do a blind split) in the next day or so. I do not make the splits based on any form of favoritism, so please don't get upset if you feel like you got a raw deal. Bribes will be accepted, but they will have no bearing on the final decision!

They will be up later today. Sorry for the delay, but the longer I wait, the more I forget about where everyone's name fits into the equation (which is a good thing). I'll crack my knuckles and knock it out this afternoon.

OK. Here we go...

I did a blind split and the results turned out pretty well. There was only one discrepancy that caught my attention - John Lloyd/Dan Jobe ended up getting placed in the Advanced Division. They have been playing in the league for quite some time, and as far as I know, they have always been in the Pro Division. I am going to stick to my guns and leave them in the Advanced Division like I blindly picked. I will give them the option of bumping themselves up to the Pro Division if they so desire. They do not have any responsibility to do so, however, so the rest of you shouldn't bother holding your breath...I like prizes too!

On another note, there is a new "B" position on Hole 4. It plays to the same distance as the old "B" placement, but it is a bit to the right. Hopefully this will help alleviate a little pressure from Hole 5s teepad. As always, though, please wait for Tee 5 to clear out before you tee-off on Hole 4. If nothing else, it is a fun new placement that everyone will get to enjoy tomorrow for the first time!

I thought I would re-iterate my bad weather cancellation policy that I mentioned earlier in this thread:

Since the weather forecast is looking a little grim, I thought I would spell out my bad weather policy - League will only be cancelled due to life-threatening weather. This would include lightning, tornadoes, and the such. If EVERY group has not finished when the round is cancelled, ALL scores will be thrown out. For example, let's say you start your round at 3:30 PM, shoot an -18 down, and go home before the weather hits. Your score will not count if the last card out (mine) does not get to finish their round. Hopefully this won't be an issue, but it has happened in the past (except the -18). Life-threatening weather does not include heavy downpours, snow, sub-zero temperatures, heat warnings, dust devils, or anything else that cannot strike you down on the spot. When in doubt, suck it up!

With that said, I am hoping for the best this evening. I will be out there as normal. If you are on the course and hear car horns going crazy, find shelter or head on back to the parking lot. As soon as the weather passes, we will resume the round if time permits.
