Nothing is changing from last years format, so there shouldn't be any surprises.

As ususal, I will have some CTPs ready to go from the start, but I will need help from everyone to get the numbers up. The more discs that are donated, the more CTPs I can have every week.

Once again, I will allow everyone to pay up front for all of the "extras" if they want to. For $65 up front, your league fees and extras (2 x 50/50 holes, ACE POOL, and CTPs) for 8 weeks are paid for. You will never have to hear me bug you about it before the start of your round each week!

League Notes 3/15/2011 - Week 1

 Welcome to JB Doubles Spring League 2011!

 The Week 9 activity this league will be a Safari-9 singles tournament. More details to follow in the coming weeks…

 Once again, the cost of the league will be $25/man or $50/team. The extra $5 worked out perfectly last year. Everyone was able to walk away with a little something and I didn’t have to squeeze the payouts too much. We are going to stick with this entry fee from here on out.

 Everyone has 4 weeks to pay their league fees. This is plenty of time to figure out your finances. After the fourth week, you will incur a $5/week (max $10 total) penalty. Any money accumulated from this penalty will go directly towards the ACE POOL, not the payouts.

 As usual, there will also be 50/50 holes, FREE CTP holes, and an ACE POOL. The price of these will ALWAYS remain the same. It is $2/hole for the 50/50’s and $1/round for the ACE POOL. If you want to participate in all of the extra contests, the total is $5/man. The FREE CTP holes are obviously FREE for everyone.

 There is a set of G.I. Oakley safety/sun glasses up for raffle. Tickets are $1/each or 8 tickets for $5. The drawing will happen after Week 7 of Spring League. If enough money hasn’t been collected, I will hold off until the Summer League to give them away. All proceeds benefit the league payouts & CTPs.

 Due to the success of the format, NO SUBS will be allowed. If your partner can’t make it, you must play CALI. If both of you can’t make it, you will be taking a drop week. Each team gets 1 drop week per 8-week league session. Also, when playing CALI, only your first shot off of the tee counts towards the CTPs, 50/50s, and ACE POOL.

 I will be making the divisional splits after Week 5 this year (instead of Week 4). Let’s see if the extra week makes a difference.

 If you have any NEW discs to donate to the league for CTPs, I will try to work out a deal. $10 - $20 in disc value will get you a week or 2 of your 50/50s paid for.

Talk about making me worry! Nothing like waking up to a decent sized snow storm the day before Spring League starts! Good news is that it should all be gone by the time I start signing people in tomorrow at 3:30 PM. The high temperature is predicted to be about 45 degrees, so make sure you wear some warmer clothes. The course is guaranteed to be a bit sloppy, so make sure you bring an extra towel or 2 as well. All of the baskets are in the "A" positions (except 14B) for the first week, which should make the round go pretty quickly.

Don't let the weather discourage you from showing up...week 1 is just as important as any week (maybe more so since everything is in the short pin positions). Taking your drop week right off the bat is an option, but trust me you want to get this one in the books for certain.

Last card will be going out no later than 5:17 PM. If you miss the last card going out at 5:17 PM, try and find another group to join up with and head out with them. You will not be eligible for the 50/50s or ACE POOL unless you hunt me down before you start your round. The FREE CTPs will only be available to you if the flags are still on the course. I will get you formally signed up for the league when you finish your round.

One last thing...

I am offering the option of paying for everything up front. $65 = $25 entry fee + $5 x 8 weeks of 50/50s, ACE POOL, and FREE CTPs. I REALLY like it when you utilize this option. It makes things that much easier every week. During Week 8, I will have a special CTP reserved for everyone that pays up front on Week 1 or Week 2. Considering that I gave away a Pluto Platter at the Holly Daze gift exchange, it probably would be in your best interest to be a part of this bonus!

Tonight was a LONG night. I knew the C-Tier setup would create backups, but I didn't figure on as much as there was. I will have to figure out how I can adequately get out 80+ golfers each week. Today was a learning experience. If you got out early, there was a bit of an advantage. There will be a bunch of short pins in weeks to follow...

There were some CRAZY good scores, considering the layout and the fact that some of the top teams had to finish in complete darkness. Who would figure that some teams would actually finish with a better score than the Week 1 layout (all shorts)? Go figure...

I agree with you Rick, I probably should have changed up a few holes in addition to Hole 1 last week. The only problem with moving any of the baskets was that I would have had to move them all back to the tournament position at the end of the night...something about the PDGA requiring the host course to be in the tourney setup at least a week ahead of time. Oh well, water under the bridge.

Also, since we have such a large number of leaguers this year (84!), I am working on figuring out the best way to get everyone out on the course. Last week I tried sending everyone off of the front. This almost worked, but not quite. This week I am going to try something slightly different. I am going to send everyone off of the front up until 4:30 PM. After 4:30 PM, I will start sending groups off of the front and back. This should help facilitate getting everyone out on the course, especially at the end of the day.

Since the weather forecast is looking a little grim, I thought I would spell out my bad weather policy - League will only be cancelled due to life-threatening weather. This would include lightning, tornadoes, and the such. If EVERY group has not finished when the round is cancelled, ALL scores will be thrown out. For example, let's say you start your round at 3:30 PM, shoot an -18 down, and go home before the weather hits. Your score will not count if the last card out does not get to finish their round. Hopefully this won't be an issue, but it has happened in the past (except the -18).

The ACE POOL is now reset. Not a big deal, though, as each week brings in about $60 towards the new one.
