I guess I should update the "status" of the course since having played it over the weekend.
The back 9 is, indeed, all installed and set up... but there are two pretty big disappointments.
1: There are serious landscaping and drainage issues on the back nine. All of the "bunkers/sandtraps" were filled with water and mud. This has caused much of the lower part of the entire field to be a swampy mess as that trapped water slowly trickles downhill. The mounds are just piles of mud - and it's too late in the year now to expect to be able to get any grass growing on them (unless they break down and put in sod and keep that roped off for several months).
2: There used to be marking stakes that defined the fairways and out of bounds areas. The city was going to mow the fairways and let the grass grow high in the OB. When I was there, only a few stakes were left standing and the mowers had mowed the grass on the entire course down and run over most of the stakes. I was left guessing as to what was fairway and what was OB (and most of that was from memory of being there in the past).
Hey, this is still a fun course and the back nine has great potential to be really cool. Getting to that point is going to be a lot of work. I would hope that they consider turning some of these bunkers into actual water hazards, but they need some professional help to install a real drainage system over that entire field and in the bunkers to keep them dry. If the back nine is left like it is... it'll be an unplayable mess before the end of the year. Just my opinions, for what it's worth.
