Carrollton Park DGC Handicap Singles League - Mondays

Postby discdoh on Thu Jul 12, 2012 9:29 am

Details will be provided VERY soon!

This Gateway Disc Sports sponsored league will start 7/23. Not only will this be the first handicapped singles league in the STL, but it will also be the first PDGA sanctioned league (optional) to boot!

Get ready!

EDIT: I am posting the preliminary info for the league. The details are subject to change, but I wouldn't anticipate anything major...

Allright, the time has finally arrived!

Tomorrow evening will kick off the first ever handicapped singles league in the STL area! For the first couple of weeks (while everyone is establishing their initial handicaps), I will be breaking the field into 2 divisions (PRO and AM). Since this will obviously benefit the more skilled players, I am taking the $5 entry fee and spreading it around a bit. $2 will go towards the payouts, $2 will go towards the 50/50s, and $1 will go towards the ACE POOL. This will give everyone some added value until they officially set their handicap. Once your handicap is set, all of your $5 entry fee will go towards the payouts. The 50/50s and ACE POOL will revert to being optional "extras".

On the topic of payouts, score based payouts and SKINS payouts will happen the following week. There is obviously going to be a bit of calculating involved with all of this, so expecting those particular payouts to happen on the same evening just isn't realistic. On the other hand, if time/light permits, I will do my best to payout the 50/50s, ACE POOLS, and FREE CTPs on the same day.

Soon enough everyone will also have the option of making their league rounds PDGA rated as well. Here is a link to the PDGA website on this topic - http://www.pdga.com/leagues. Hopefully it will answer all of your questions. It might take a week or 2 to get everything hammered out and coordinated properly with the PDGA (I think they were a bit busy this past week with Worlds), but rest assured that I will do my best to get it all finalized ASAP.

For the first week, we will be playing from the red tees (posts) to the current basket locations. I might move Basket 1 to the "A" position tomorrow before everyone heads out, but otherwise everything will stay where it is. Down the road, I will hopefully be able to get the course captains to assist in moving the baskets around every other week or so.

Please post any questions you might have, as I am trying to figure all of this out myself too!

Hope to see you all there!

Tomorrow I will not be able to stick around after sign-ups (relatives in town), so I will be asking someone to gather up all of the scorecards and CTP flags for me. If you are able to help me out, please let me know tomorrow when you sign in. I work at the Gateway shop in Maryland Heights, so if you live nearby maybe you can lend a hand and drop everything off the following day or pick a place to meet up with me. I will have a nice BONUS for the individual that takes on this responsibility! Thanks in advance!

BTW, I will be installing a Singles League mailbox on the Hole 1 post. Once it is installed, it will become the official scorecard drop-box. If your scorecard is not turned in to me personally or placed in this mailbox, your score will not be known and therefore will not count. I hate to be a stickler on this, but trying to track people down is not enjoyable to say the least...

Disc Up,
Hate to bust your bubble but this is not the first ever handicap singles league in the Saint Louis area. Back in the beginning of the new millennium Quail Ridge had the RHL (Red Handicap League) set up by Ralph. Just keeping the record straight, this idea was used about a decade ago. I know you would never ;) try to rewrite the history of disc golf in the greater Saint Louis area (that one is for you legend).

Since no reply has come, I spoke with my friend who appeared at the league. He said they started shortly after 430. Once you established a card.

He said their were 12 players.

17 people showed up on Monday for the inaugural evening of Carrollton Singles. It was 105 degrees, so I certainly don't blame some of you for not showing up. ;) Other than dealing with the heat, I think everyone had a good time.

Gateway provided some killer FREE CTP packages. These FREE CTPs were worth the price of admission on their own! The winners were Jerry Barklage, Chris Gore, and Jake Harrison.

Since the scores are not handicapped yet, I took the $5 entry fee and split it amongst the payouts ($2), 50/50s ($2), and ACE POOL ($1). I also split the field into PRO and AM divisions. I did this with the hopes that everyone would have a legitimate chance at walking away with some cash. Be this as it may be, Justin Bunnell walked away with the lion's share of the winnings. He shot the low score for the PROs (51) and won both of the 50/50 CTPs. He also took home 80% of the skins money by being the outright lowest score on 4 separate holes. The other 20% went to David McCormack for being the outright lowest on 1 hole.

I will make a complete report and get it posted soon. I am bowling after work today, so it probably won't happen until tomorrow...

Remember that this is a weekly league. You do not need to show up every week to participate. If you did not make it this past week, it does not have any bearing on your ability to join us whenever you can make it. Just realize that it is going to take 2 weeks of play for you to establish a handicap, and I won't be offering a AM division past Week 2...
