Crosstown Rumble need some people to sit down and seriously put it through the think tank. It’s a viable idea, but it’s not getting there. At the very least, it needs to be later in the year AFTER leagues start so captain have a chance to talk up a team.
As far as boundaries go, there needs to be a way to give St. Charles a team. The Ridge Runners are more of a cohesive group than most of the groups that show up for Crosstown Rumble, yet they get slashed in half and left to fill in North and West rosters. That doesn’t really make a lot of sense.
I’ve thought that a competition based on courses rather than geography would be more popular. People are more attached to courses than geography. Guys from the QR league would probably show up for a Ridge Runner team. If the teams were named for popular courses such as Quail Ridge, White Birch, JB and Collinsville and you got to pick which one you considered “your” course the idea might get more traction. Maybe you could figure out a way to have more, smaller teams. You could have Sioux, Endicott, JB, Unger, CC, QR, Collinsville and one other course for eight teams. The Captains would be under less pressure to recruit if you had smaller teams. Then you could have first round grudge matches like White Birch VS Sioux Passage for the right to represent North County in the second round. Endicott VS CC, JB VS Unger, something like that. First round losers could have conciliation 2nd round matches so that players get a full day of play in. I haven’t thought it all the way out, but I think the details could get worked out.
I know a system like that is open for abuse. Bob could bribe Robo to play for the White Birch team and there really would be nothing to stop it from happening. Still, I think it would be more popular than forcing people to represent a geographic area based on what side of I-70 they happen to live on.
