Gateway presents Match Play Madness - Saturday, March 30th

Postby discdoh on Mon Mar 18, 2013 9:11 am

We are in the process of figuring out if the City of Florissant is going to allow pay to play tournaments/leagues at Dunegant Park, so the venue for this event is still a bit up in the air. If we are informed that we cannot host the tournament at Dunegant, we will post the replacement venue ASAP. In the meantime, I think it is necessary to get the information that we have out there immediately, so here we go...

Please post any questions you might have or just call the shop directly at 314-487-5204.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THIS TOURNAMENT IS NOT SECURED FOR DUNEGANT PARK AS OF 3/18/13. STAY TUNED FOR FURTHER DETAILS.

I have a few questions...

- How will the seeding work? I'm guessing that you register for a given division, either Adv or Rec? Top 16 scores amongst the entire field go into the Pro bracket? Remaining Adv and Rec get seeded based on their scores within their respective divisions? Will low seed be facing top seeds, ala the NCAA tourney (1 vs 16, 2 vs 15)?...or are you matched against similar seeds (15 vs 16, 1 vs 2)?

- How deep do you envision payouts will go in each division?

- Can you shed more specifics on the consolation brackets and what sort of prizes can be won there?

The amateur divisions offered to begin with are ADV and REC. If there is a large enough turnout we may open up a third AM division.

Seeding is based off of your 9-Hole performance and will be done in the typical manner...ala March Madness.

We are thinking that the Top 50% of the REC division and the Top %25 of the ADV division will be part of the payouts. In other words, in a 16 person bracket, the Top 8 RECs and Top 4 ADVs will get paid out. In the PRO division, we are thinking that the Top 25% will get paid out.

The consolation bracket is in effect to help facilitate everyone getting a full day of golf in, if they so desire. Dave Mac will figure out what he would like to award consolation bracket match winners. This will probably be a disc or something similar.

As of right now, the Match Play Madness is cancelled at Dunegant Park.

Dave Mac and the Florissant Parks Department is concerned that the snow melt is going to create some nasty ground conditions. In order to maintain good relations, it is imperative that we don't tear up the course too much before it has a chance to get more permanently established. I will be talking with Dave later today about possibly moving this event to an alternate venue...

Stay posted...

The Match Play Madness is officially cancelled due to the possibility of bad ground conditions. We don't want to get the City of Florissant upset before the course has a chance to establish itself.

The official replacement event will be the St. Louis Putting Championships. This is an indoor Match Play Style Putting event. Here is a link to the flyer...
