Re: Ice Bowl Series

Postby mkane on Mon Jan 24, 2011 12:02 pm

From the tournament side of the winter series the RCF 4 tourneys are in the books. I am sure Chris will have the numbers crunched for us to see how much cash and food was raised for the food bank. Now we still have more ice bowls on tap, Columbia next week, White Birch in 2 weeks and Collinsville 2-27 and Hannibal 2-19 to name a few. So make sure you get out to, enjoy another ice bowl, and help the cause.
The ice bowl is possible because several groups of sponsors, organizations, and special people, who you may or may not know. If you happen to play with them on your card in upcoming tournaments be sure to thank them if you get a chance.

Primarily I want to thank our sponsors, Innova and Discraft have been very generous in providing inventory at costs we can afford. Gateway provided several items also very nicely priced. Schlafly provided us with a very tasty brand of brew, and Johnny Mac’s provided us with gift Certificates. Slik provided CTPs for the series and the scorecards for the Quail Ridge tourney. These sponsors are valuable to the growth of our organization, please take some time to stop buy and show them what kind of buying power RCF has as a group, and let them know you are a RCF Member and tell them thanks!

Next, I want you all to know that we could not have pulled this off without our friends. The JCS Sharpshooters were the key organizers of this series, I think when it comes to a model on how to run a tournament the Sharpshooters have the most efficient system(make sure you attend a sharpshooter event this year and see for yourself). I muddled through the CC Tourney, check in took forever, and the basket raffle / throw off for the Blue Tickets never happened. The next week at West City, I was able to observe a balanced crew, they have a core group that was there in force to handle the activities, the entries, the grey tickets, the blue tickets and they made it look easy (it is not!). The next week at JB they again were there to help us set up, Thank you so much; Sharpshooters Rock!

Next, the St. Charles Disc Golf Club provided us a quality round of golf, and a sneak peek at the new 6 holes coming to Quail Ridge. I know that we had two rounds initially scheduled. I know that some players were not happy about the change; I accept responsibility for the change in the round schedule, due to the snow. If we did not have snow we would have played two rounds, but due to the start time of 10 am, I had to make a choice, I hope that the 27 hole layout was OK. And for you players that were not happy, I noticed and I heard you. A big thanks to everyone who help prep the course, prep food and set up the cards. Tim “Shanks” Wiegard, Josh Cole, Rick Maesson, Kieth McPeak, Greg Kuehn, Shaniac, Gary and Debbie Polkinghorne., Andy “Magic” Majesky.

Also Kudos to Joe Jaegers, Mark Dudenhoffer, Greg Doh, and Red Keenan the merchandising wizard.

Finally, I hope the ryder cup points race was jump started, and a big thanks to Chris Kinsella for tracking the scores and points.

I look forward to the upcoming tourneys, The Massacre, the C-Tiers, Bridgeton Temp basket tourneys, Ryder Cup Qualifiers and the Bluebird State series. We have a lot of golf to play this year, and your continued big turnouts will result in improved payouts. Don't forget to plan for upcoming leagues too.

Thanks again

Re: Ice Bowl Series

Postby Chris K on Mon Jan 24, 2011 7:02 pm

There were 125 players who participated in 1 or more events;
60 played 1 event
28 played 2 events
14 played 3 events
23 played 4 events

Thank you all who came out to play with us.

This is a good time to review the Series. What did you like? What would you do without?
Examples; Yea or Nee
- 1 round vs. 2 rounds
- nooner start vs 10a start
- eliminate the Series and have 1 Ice Bowl
- raise the price to $20 or keep it low at $10 w/2 cans
- what other fund raisers would you like to see
- what fund raisers have no interest for you
- were the prizes worthwhile
- did you like the ctp packages
- were they worthwhile

If anyone is playing other Ice Bowls, please let us know how we can improve ours.

Re: Ice Bowl Series

Postby Chris K on Tue Jan 25, 2011 3:06 pm

I absolutely loved the nooner start time. I didn't have to get up at 5 or 5:30a to be at the course in time to set up. An 11a start might be OK too.
I also think the nooner start allowed more people to come out and play. It makes for a much more relaxing tournament experience. The CTP packages were a hit IMO. The tournaments that went smoothest were West City and Quail Ridge because more people were helping out at registration etc. It would be sweet to have a core of 10 people or so to help set up and register players as well as add cards and organize the Leader Board. Other tasks include putting CTP signs on tee posts, cleaning tee pads, picking up materials beforehand, signing up new members, tapping the keg, picking up trash, raising the tarps and banners and taking them down, not to mention helping monitor the merchandise sales.

I absolutely love the noon start time and suggest to keep the series.

I would still like to see a split field of Pro and Am. Even in a fundraising event there are ways to keep it competitive at the same time. I'll play either way but I never liked single division events.

Everything was beautiful!!

See you in Columbia!

When will the fundraising totals for the ICE BOWL series be posted? Or did I miss the posting of how much cash and food we raised this year?
