We have passed the 400 members threshold!

Our club has passed the 400 member mark and with that, increases our circle of influence with the Parks dept and community. Our volunteer base grows as well as potential sponsors to our sport. The Boy Scout Jamboree is in 1 month, June 4, 5, and 6 and with that comes an opportunity to bring them into our conversation to become members and to improve the courses and parks. They have asked us to co-host a disc golf activity in Forest Park. We have projects that Eagle Scouts could take on, such as bridges and trees. When each of us chips in, the work is manageable. Our momentum is building with each new member. Billy Nelson, the PDGA MO State Coordinator, was so impressed by the St Louis Open and the volunteers that he felt we should put our name in the hat to host the Am Worlds. We will need many more volunteers for this undertaking.

St Francois State park has asked us to help them on May 8th for Family Day in the Park. Please let Bob Waidmann know if you can help out. 314-307-2187 This may be our foot in the door of State Park golf courses.

Thank you all for joining the St Louis Disc Golf Club. There is much to do and east to go. Please encourage your disc golf buddies to join us. Our goal is to raise 1000 members and $10,000 by August 1st. We are within reach if all of us bring in one more newbie.
BTW, Mark Dudenhoeffer won the Basket Drawing this Sunday at the St Louis Open. The next Basket Drawing will be at the Club Championships. Remember, you get a ticket for every new member you bring in.

We raised $159 at the St Louis Open player's party for tags 419 and 420. We hosted a CTP to a basket 210 feet away (210 out then 210 back = 420) and charged $1 per throw or 7 throws for $5. Keith Amerson hit the Ace and grabbed 419, his wedding anniversary, and Jeff McClusky won the 420 tag with a leaner on the pole. Congratulations to you both!

I bet the basket raffles raise over 2500 dollars this year.
I bet the payouts this year and next will be bigger.
I wonder how many strokes Geoff Bennett will win the St. Louis Open by this year.
I bet if half of the members got just one person to join we would have almost 500 members half way to our goal of 1000 members.
I kind of thought that about some of the members who have been around for a long time. Are we shutting them out, the answer is no, no we are not. What we are doing is changing, and it is common that "resistance to change" puts a bad taste in your mouth. I know it is hard to deal with change, and some very important to the club members feel the are being distanced the way Roger expressed clearly in the post above. Roger, Hitman, Brian, Southern Illinois Chain Gang, Festus JC Sharpshooters, St. Charles Cuvy Members, this is where we pull it together, take a deep breath, make sure we understand that growth is not without pain, but certainly will have benefits, I depend on the elder statesmen of this club to stand firm, do not drift away. Heck we still need a couple of B tiers to happen, in addition to all the other club events.
Change is scary but not as bad as imagining a static club with nothing new to offer.

Tact Lesson 1 on membership drives:
If you are at a course for an event for weekly events like doubles or singles, or an event held at a course....
Please let the course captain sell the memberships, during that time frame, or at least find out if the captain has tags first....
