PARKS WILL STAY OPEN!

Late last night it was announced by St. Louis County Executive and the County Council that NO ST. LOUIS COUNTY PARKS WILL BE CLOSED!

This came following their meeting with the special committee put together by the council to research the proposed 2012 county budget. It was determined that closing parks and laying off county employees would not save the county any money based on negative offsets and that the budget could be balanced in other ways.

I think most of us figured that the threat to close parks was a ploy to rally public outrage, so as to prepare us for some other budget cutting measure that they actually wanted to push forward... but it's still great to know for sure that we can sleep easy knowing that our parks are safe (for this year anyhow).

Yea, it was a ploy for sure. Dooley proposed a personal property tax increase to the budget commite a little while back and got denied all around. The tax increase is the "actually budget cutting measure" you speak of.
