Quail Ridge 2009 Summer League

Last night of league was originally to be July 21. The final night will now be moved back to July 28. I need to verify with someone from the JB league for sure, but according to the post on the message board their final night will be August 4.

There were 4 more teams to sign up for league last night to bring the total to 110 players. Two of those teams committed verbally, so I have not added them to the list yet. Starting in the fall league the field will be limited to 108 players. That is 3 teams on every hole for the final night. If anyone has any ideas about how to accomadate more players I am open to suggestions. One possiblity I have thought of is adding 3 temp holes. That would at least allow 18 more players and wouldn't add too much time to the round on the final night. That would work best though in spring and summer when daylight isn't such an issue. Last night of fall we are usually running out of daylight, so I don't know if adding extra holes would work there.

Since you asked for our opinions...

I am totaly against adding temp holes for the last night. The last thing anyone wants is to lose to another team on some made-up hole the last night of league that they had never gotten a chance to play before. I know they do it in tournaments and I don't like that either, but that's a different discussion (like maybe limiting the field in tournaments instead). Also, I would hope you wouldn't use your basket for one of those holes. I have the exact same one and it sucks for anything but putting practice.

Note: for at least this summer league, there will be 2 teams not playing the last week (Andy/Doug and Chris/Jim) because of food preperations, etc. Not that 4 people makes much of a difference, but it's a little help.

Maybe while people are waiting at a hole to tee off they could be picking up cigarette butts and trash and you can give a prize for who brings in the most trash, haha (no bringing trash from work Link).

I forgot about the 2 teams not playing the final night, so I guess we could go to 112 players.

I know my basket sucks and it can be tough sometimes playing a hole for the first time, but everyone would be playing the hole for the first time on the same basket. It's a level playing field. And you could come up with 3 really good holes that people might actually like to play.

One problem I have thought about with adding the holes is a few teams don't play the final night. The temp holes would have to be set up twice. Not a big deal, but something to consider.

Again though I don't want to cap this league at 112 players, so I'm just trying to figure out a way to accomadate more players. I would be willing to sacrifice playing a few temp holes on the final night in order to have more participants.

I just thought of one obvious thing about the extra baskets for the last night of league that we haven't mentioned yet - drop weeks.

If that ordeal can be explained, i'd like to hear the resolution. There are always people that can't make the last week and they might need to use their drop week, so I also don't think the last week should be required to take (but you should come anyway for the great food and (hopefully) free beer).

Darn, I thought for sure I would have to defend Magic (the sugar-cube) for calling off this weeks leauge. Well I will anyhow just in case....Mr. Majesky thank you, having over 100 people out on the course increases the odds of Aces being hit, but it also gives the lighting that many more targets to strike also. Thank you for seeing the big picture Andy, you care about the safety of all of us, that is why this is now the biggest and best league. Thanks again!

Thanks Mark...very much appreciated! I did get harassed a bit on Tuesday by some of the guys who played a casual round after the rain stopped, but it was all in good fun. I think most people now realize where I am coming from when I do have to cancel league. Trust me when I say that I am the last person that wants to see a league night get canceled. Unfortunately it will be necessary from time to time. Hopefully all of the rain is out of here by tomorrow evening and we have nothing to worry about. See everyone out there.
