The Battle at the Barracks - Fall League - Starts 9/21/2010*

Get ready for one of the most unique leagues in the St. Louis area! Everyone that participated last year had a blast. The overwhelming response was that we should make it an annual event to fill in the final Tuesday's before Daylight Savings Time kills all of our afternoon daylight. If everything goes according to plan, we will have 7 Tuesday's to work with.

The format for this league:

- All 18 holes will be shortened. No hole will exceed 200 feet. The holes that we can use the tee pads on will be used. Otherwise, there will be flagged off tee areas somewhere in the middle of the fairway. This makes for some really creative/tricky hole designs.

- The scoring is NOT stroke based. You accumulate points for birdies and hitting metal. Birdies are worth 1 point, hitting metal is worth 5 points, and ACES are worth 25 points. So, hitting 18 birdies doesn't necessarily mean you are the top point getter that day.

- This league pays out on a weekly basis. The entry fee is $5/week. $4 of this goes to the payout for that week. $1 goes towards the overall payouts. In order to qualify for the overall, you need to have participated in at least 4 of the 7 weeks. Your overall score is the total of your best 4 weeks.

- Cards will go start to go out at 3:00p. They will continue to go out until 2 hours before sunset. I will post sunset times in a later post. Payouts happen immediately after the last card is tallied. You do not need to be present to collect your winnings. Show up the following week for your money if you need to leave early.

I think you should get more points for metal. Last year it was 10.
Maybe even 50 for an ace 25 for metal and 10 for a birdie.

Don't forget that tomorrow is the official start of The Battle at the Barracks. We are going to try to stick to the 2 hour before sunset schedule. Here are the sunset times again:

Because the format is pretty much run-n-gun style, I am pretty sure we can get away with the last card going out 1:45 before sunset. Since I will always be on that last card, I can guarantee that this is the ABSOLUTE latest. I will start putting away the league supplies at 2 hours before sunset, which means I will be at the tee no more than 15 minutes later.

The points system is still under the microscope. It will either be the posted 1-5-25 format, a 5-10-25 format, or a 10-25-50 format. If you have any input, please let me know before the round tomorrow. I will listen to all opinions.

In order to qualify for the overall, you must compete in 4 of the 7 weeks. If time is going to be an issue and you want to compete for the overall, it would be in your best interest to get some scores in early on. This will give you a few weeks to work with later on.

Each week I am going to have at least 1 PRIMO CTP and 2 x $1 50/50s. The cost will be $2 to participate in all of the extras. More than likely there will be 2 PRIMO CTPs each week. I only need a few donations to make this happen. The 50/50 funds will help support the overall payouts and the player's party after Week 7. Mark D. is going to put on a Baconator/chicken wing/and other tasty items Battlefest! This will happen at the Blackhawk Shelter, so you won't even need to leave the park.

The Battle at the Barracks Results Week 1

One week down, six more to go. Nice start, Joe!

The course will undergo a complete re-design by next Tuesday. It will stay like that for 2 weeks.

We used a completely new point system, and it will remain like this from here on out. You get 10 points for a birdie, 25 points for metal (basket and above), and 50 points for an ACE.

I believe the only ACE was hit by Joe Jaegers on Hole 18. It was his first ACE ever. Even though that was the shortest hole of the round, it still was a tee shot that landed in the basket!

There were 5 metals hit. Any score that ends with a 5 indicates that a metal was hit. I'm not sure if anyone hit 2 metals, but don't think so. I can check if you really want me to.

The round took approxiamately 1 3/4 hours. I was the last card out and we started at around 5:15 and finished around 7:05. There was still enough light to tally the cards for about 15 minutes or so. Honestly, it felt like the round could have gone quicker too.

Yes, I am glad that you stopped at 4 questions.

BTW, I still have your winnings from the doubles league - $30.
