4/1/12: Monthly Letter from the RCF President (March 2012)

(Click Here to Read the last President’s Letter)

We just finished a very successful C-Tiers tournament weekend where we maxed-out the field and had about 90 each day! The weather was outstanding, and so were the players! Congrats to all, and thanks to all of the volunteers who helped make it successful: Tim Wiegard for TD’ing; Steve Kleiber for taking registrations and handling the money; Greg Dohogne for helping with registrations and everything else at tournament central; Ted Spies for taking pics, helping everywhere, and updating the website; Mark Dudenhoffer for running the ring of fire both days; Chris Kinsella for handling membership signups and running a CTP tag contest; Tim Finan for helping to get Endicott ready; and Francis Albanese for helping to get Sioux ready. Thanks…

*Creve Coeur update: We negotiated for the course to remain open for an extended period of time since it was premature to just pick the April 2 date. The grass is growing slow at CC so STL County Parks has agreed to let it remain open longer. The board will help set the new date – my thinking right now is it should remain open another month.
*Sioux Passage new course update: Francis Albanese has met with the Sioux parks people twice; update coming soon.
*Bridgeton update: Dave McCormack has put in a new design (since Bridgeton slightly reduced the land that we can use). Dave had a few people try it out over the last couple of days (Pat Baumick, and Tyson) and I walked it on Friday afternoon. It looks good! Since there are multiple tee possibilities and multiple basket placements, this course should play well for beginners to pros. I will setup a meeting with Joe Campbell from Bridgeton asap so we can show him the new design. Another very important milestone is Bridgeton was removing debris from the streets on Friday and starting to mow the area! Stay tuned!!
*STL Open update and Volunteer Request: The St. Louis Open will be my first opportunity to be a TD for an A Tier event – I look forward to it – please be patient with me and our volunteers. I want to start by asking if we can get some volunteers – we need a TD (and a backup TD) for all of the courses (besides Endicott – so we need help with Rock Springs, JB, and Sioux). We will make sure our volunteers get rewarded for helping – a players pack will be given for those who help all weekend. For those who can help just one day, we will still reward you with some good swag. Please let me know if you can help us put on a great tournament!
*STL Open Advertising: This should be a really wonderful tournament! Greg has put together a good flyer. We have a great set of pros coming for the tournament and they will host a “Flight School” session on Thursday, May 2, and then a Free Clinic at the Player’s Party Saturday eve – see our website for details. We will have a doubles event on Friday hosted by LS Discs, and we will likely have Glide disc golf also as a vendor. We are accepting $20 hole sponsors for the tournament holes – so if interested, contact one of the board members or post in the STLO Forum Thread.
*Tee Signs: We have 9 of the JB tee signs in hand – we expect to have all of thr JB and Endicott new signs up before the STL Open.
*Disc and Merchandise Inventory: We had an updated set of inventory for the C-tiers – the 65 Blizzards sold out. We will reorder more. Post your wants in the Club Inventory Forum on our message board, or let Bob Waidmann know what else you would like to see us carry.
*Course Maintenance: If you know of course maintenance that needs to occur, let us know. We will reimburse any material that needs to be purchased – these costs go against our course rental fees each year.
*River City Ratings: The all-new River City Ratings system is out…check the website and get yours today! Area Clubs and TD’s are looking at ways to use them to make their events more fun, fair, and competitive, and the Ratings should be a nice addition to the benefits of Joining an STL-area DG Club.

Thanks all – I hope to see you at the STL Open!

Dave West, PDGA #752
